ANOTHER GOOD SHOW FOR SOUTHERN DISTRICTS POULTRY CLUB
The Annual Show of the Southern Districts Poultry Club held at the Strathalbyn Showgrounds on Sunday July 29th, has been another very successful event, even if entries were down on last year's record, organizers are pleased with the day, with 448 entries being received.
32 exhibitors came from near & far, with it coming from local areas for the Show including Strathalbyn, Langhorne Creek, Milang, Goolwa, Meadows, Mt Barker and also Verdun, Balhannah, McLaren Vale, Gawler, Edwardstown, Kurralta Park, Crafers, Murray Bridge, Tailem Bend, Clovelly Park & Mannum.
The President, Mr Mike Grasby thanked everyone for their attendance & support, especially acknowledging donors of prizes, Mt Barker Mitre 10, Mt Barker Clothing, Misty Creek Garden Centre, Ned's Emporium, Lasscock's Garden Centre, Mt Barker Fodder, Mt Barker Foodland, Daish Irrigation & Fodder, Ian Kutcher and patron Dave Willison, with these presentations being made at the end of the day.
A big thanks also to the judges, John Keeling, Brenda Oakey, Malcolm Maywald & John Carroll, who made the following comments:
Large Malay Game was a good bird. Some good hard feather bantams. Silver Spangled Hamburg bantams were a good type.
White Wyandotte cockerel was a beautiful bird, well presented - well done!
Large Heavy & Light Breeds were quite good. Speckled Sussex was a good bird. Most birds good for their breed but unfortunately some had broken wing feathers. Leghorns were quite good.
Waterfowl - good selection of Indian Runners. Impressed wirth Pekins. Congratulations to all winners.
Juniors - Congratulations on amount of entries. Good Indian Runner that won champion. Some other good birds as well. Some had broken wing feathers.
Eggs - Well presented No polishing. Would be good to see more entries.
